Kuma is the foundation of our breeding program. She has 4 points toward her AKC Championship. She is affectionate, intelligent, and funny. She loves every puppy who comes to our house for training in my puppy preschool program, and has become my assistant puppy preschool teacher.
How do I get a puppy?
INvestment
Once you have been approved to be on the waiting list, no money is due until you are matched with a specific litter. At that point, a $500 deposit will hold a puppy from that litter for you. The remainder of the purchase price of $3500 (for a pet-quality, limited AKC registration puppy) is due when you have been matched with a specific puppy. The purchase price includes training in my innovative K9 Level Up Puppy Preschool Program. This training builds on the amazing foundation your puppies are already receiving through the Puppy Culture Curriculum, but it takes it to the next level. If you are interested in picking up your puppy later than 8.5 weeks, I offer extended training and socialization through that program.
Puppies who have gone through my Puppy Preschool program have gone on become service and therapy dogs. In Kuma's first litter, two of the puppies who went through the program were able to earn both their Canine Good Citizen title and Novice Trick Dog title at 4.5 months old!
The Deposit is non-refundable in almost all circumstances; however, if a puppy that meets your identified preferences (color, gender) is not available when it becomes your turn to be matched with a puppy from the selected litter, you may elect to have the Deposit transferred to the next litter or have the Deposit refunded. This is the only circumstance under which the deposit is refundable.
If you are interested in a show quality puppy, and if any puppies in the litter are determined to be show-quality after evaluations by my mentors, the purchase price is $5000 (full AKC registration). Approved show homes are offered their choice of puppies after any puppies that we are keeping have been selected. If there are show quality puppies in the litter, approved show homes get priority over pet homes.

Follow Takikawa Shiba Inu on Facebook to see the most current updates. Commenting on posts, asking questions, and communicating with me are the best ways to let me know that you are still interested in a puppy when I start making going-home decisions.
After you are on the approved waiting list, regular updates and pictures of the current litter will be added to a Google photo album. This is a great way to see your puppy grow and develop, as well as to see the socialization experiences and training sessions that all the puppies receive.
Which one is mine?
Our placement process is intentionally and thoughtfully designed to make your puppy dream a reality.
After the puppies are evaluated by my mentors between seven and eight weeks old, puppy placement decisions are made. For those puppies that are deemed show quality, preference is given to conformation show homes. You will have the opportunity to watch the puppies' videos as they go through their training sessions. Their personalities will be emerging. Because we have the privilege of interacting with the puppies every day from birth, it’s no surprise that we learn their personalities and little character nuances. Part of the joy we share is the process of matching families with the right puppy.
While we believe that humans and dogs can have an innate sense of connection, we also understand that individual personalities are sometimes better suited to one family over another. It’s our responsibility to make careful observations of each puppy, and find out what type of puppy would best suit your family, so that the best match can be made.
Bringing your new puppy home
Takikawa Shiba Inu puppies are ready to go home after they turn 8 weeks old. They come with a health guarantee (see details in the puppy contract), a full physical from our veterinarian, appropriate vaccinations and worming, HomeAgain TempScan microchip, AKC registration, 30 days of free AKC Pet Insurance, a Snuggle Puppy heartbeat toy, and a copy of the book Level Up: Dog Training Journal--Puppy Edition.
After final payments have been made, each owner will be contacted to schedule their pick up time, generally the first weekend after puppies turn 8 weeks old. While picking up the puppy at our home is ideal, we understand that it is not always possible. We are happy to meet you at the Grand Rapids airport or assist with other travel arrangements.
